Though I personally think it is too early to give up on Cody Williams for Jazz fans, the start to his career has been historically bad for a lottery pick. In this trade, the Jazz decide to cut their losses early under Austin Ainge (who did not draft Cody) and reunite him with his brother in OKC. Utah also takes a swing at 3rd-year forward GG Jackson, who, while having shown promising flashes thus far in his career, finds himself buried on the Grizzlies' depth chart. The Grizzlies snag some minimal draft compensation as well as Ousmane Dieng, who is still very young despite being in the league for a while now.
In an ideal trade, Utah would also get its pick back from OKC (top 8 protected), but this trade likely wouldn't be near enough value for OKC to consider that.
