Spurs get off Fox's contract for an elite backup big, Ant gets some more offensive help

SUCCESS

Fox was terrible in the finals and is clearly the least favourable of the three Spurs guards, especially considering his absurd contract over the next few years. He's redundant and even harmful on a team like SAS, but could massively help out Ant and the Wolves offense. No more relying on 40 year old Mike Conley or Bones Hyland for point guard play, now you have an athletic pg who can help Ant out with the playmaking and ball handling, provide some scoring and spacing and bring more pace and energy to the offense. His contract is bad, but you're also getting off Gobert's not so great contract, and regaining control over the pick lost in the Rob Dillingham draft night trade, as well as getting an extra pick for any future uses.

The Spurs desperately need more rim protection whilst Wemby isn't there. The playoff minutes where he was benched and Kornet was at the 5 were horrendous, and they were regularly losing those minutes pretty severely. Wemby also isn't the healthiest player in the league, and having someone else to cover a lot of his responsibilities when he's out is very helpful. The Spurs would always be an ELITE defense with one of Wemby or Gobert always on the floor at the 5. Would also be interesting to see some minutes with those two in a double big lineup, with Wemby's shooting and spacing allowing it to work, like a supercharged Chet and Ihart. Gobert is on a smaller and shorter contract than Fox, and would be off the books by the time Castle and Harper need their extensions. Also helps that Wemby and Gobert already seem to have a bit of a relationship, and would be playing together for France as well.
