Cavs get: Dennis Schroeder, Keon Ellis (already happened), Justin Champagnie Cavs trade: Deandre Hunter and one second, Lonzo Ball, three seconds, Dean wade, one second

Cavs Schroeder trade thoughts: Fantastic job by them. I personally feel like the combined Schroeder and Keon Ellis is more valuable to what they need than Deandre Hunter. Max Strus will be coming back soon, and Jalen Tyson has been phenomenal this season, making Hunter expendable. They also saved almost $7 million in cap, and around $40-$50 mill in luxury tax spending. They couldn’t have done any better. Only traded one second as well.

Why Cavs do my proposed trades: The Cavs goal is to get under the second apron. With these deals they do just that. Lonzo has been pretty bad this season, and the Wizards have shown interest in him. They trade Champagnie to get someone of interest and three additional seconds as ammo to there rebuild. The Cavs save $9 in cap space with this deal. Adding Champagnie makes Dean Wade expendable, so they dump him and a second to Detroit. Dean Wade isn’t a bad player, he has genuine value and would likely get some minutes in Detroit’s rotation as a 3&D guy. The Cavs would convert Naquon Tomlins deal to a standard contract, meaning they would likely be just under the 2nd Apron. I still think this offseason they should part with one of Garland, Mobley, or Allen in a move that would bring them a good player and a salary cut. This is a great start though, and still look like East contenders despite a bad start to the season.
