Heat aquire Klay Thompson from the Mavs and the Kings facilitate

SUCCESS

It is clear that Klay Thompson's time is done with the Mavericks. Even if he starts the year on the Mavs, I would be shocked to see him still on the roster come postseason. If he is not bought out at the deadline, I could see him getting traded for a package like this. I am pretty sure the Mavs do not want to take on Jovic's contract, and they already have so many power forwards, so the move is to Jovic alongside Caleb Martin and some SRPs to the Kings to acquire an expiring Deandre Hunter contract.

Why the Heat do this: They desperately need shooting to surround Giannis and Bam, so moving a player in Jovic who fell out of the rotation last year for an aging Klay Thompson makes sense. They open up some cap to use next offseason for the price of one SRP swap, which should not amount to much. I would have thrown in their 2027 SRP swap as well, but the Kings already have 2 SRPS next year, so I don't see them wanting to get a third.

Why the Mavs do this: Yeah, it is sad to see Klay go after a disappointing tenure with the Mavs. He came to a team with Luka and Kyrie fresh off a finals appearance, and then Nico Harrison ruined everything. With this in mind, Klay no longer fits this timeline, nor is he productive enough to remain a core piece of their rotation when so many young guys need their minutes to develop. Therefore moving off play and the very negative contract of Caleb Martin for the small price of two SRPs is a steal IMO, and opens up an additional ~23 million dollars in cap for the 2027 offseason.

Why the Kings do this: It would be disappointing to move on from Hunter after less than a full season, but Sacramento does not have many players they can move for assets, nor do they have young players to play on the wing. Sacramento can take a flyer on Jovic and give him a no-expectation role to see how/if he develops and gets 3 SRPs (as well as Martin's negative contract) for an expiring salary of Hunter is fair IMO. Yes, they do take on a lot more long-term money, but there really is no one else who is tradable ATM except for maybe Malik Monk, so if I were Sacramento I would take what I can get in terms of receiving picks for players.

Let me know what yall think!
