DAL
Dallas acquires Evan Fournier from the Orlando Magic for Josh Richardson, Trey Burke, and two second-round picks. The Mavericks do this to acquire a great sharpshooter and shot-creator next to Luka Doncic. They also receive playmaking and off-ball scoring in the form of Fournier, especially since Josh Ricardson has struggled in both of those aspects, despite being the better defender. However, Fournier is the better shooter, playmaker, shot-creator, slasher, and is also a 3-and-D wing. Also, his defense is not as big as a drop-off compared to Richardson's as many would believe, because Fournier actually gets more steals per game and has more size. Fournier and Tim Hardaway Jr. would form an intriguing wing combo to play off of Doncic. Hardaway Jr. would now become the Mavericks' sixth man, as Dallas now runs a VERY tall starting-five, where every player is 6'7" or above:
Doncic - Fournier - Finney-Smith - Kleber - Porzingis
ORL
Orlando acquires Josh Richardson as a nice SG replacement for Fournier. Richardson's defense would work well next to Cole Anthony and when he returns next year, Fultz as well. Orlando gains a nice temporary option, and Richardson is also a year younger than Fournier. The Magic also receive a good backup PG in Trey Burke who is a quality veteran and very reliable. He could be a nice mentor to Cole Anthony as well. Richardson and Burke fit well in Orlando and the Magic also receive two second-rounders for Fournier and his expiring contract. This is a good long-term and sustainable move for Orlando, as they gain better fits and draft picks.
Dallas makes a win-now move to make the playoffs and they should with Fournier for sure, whereas Orlando maximizes Fournier's trade value to gain better roster fits and draft picks.
Is this a good trade?
