Why the pacers do it- The pacers get two top four picks by trading the majority of their remaining veterans and next years draft capital. Holmes will be a good stop gap center while Isaiah Jackson develops. John wall would likely bought out, or traded for minor pieces to a desperate team. This move for the pacers means that they would be going all in on getting young talent to surround Haliberton.

Why the Rockets do it - the rockets only move down three spots, but get an elite run protector and an elite shooter. The rockets need a point guard and there aren’t any true point guards at the top of the draft. It would make sense for them to o trade down and pick up Dyson Daniels. They could also trade the 6th pick down further or for an establish veteran point guard. They also trade off of John walls massive contract. That’s not a huge plus, but helps them out a little bit.

Why the kings do it - it is has been rumored that the kings are interested in Malcom Brogdan. This trade allows them to be more competitive this year, but also means they would likely have 3 picks next year. With a ton of cap and three first round picks next year they could swing a trade that finally gets them a star. At the very least, this trade gives them a lot more assets, and thus a lot more flexibility. Currently they seem stuck in mediocrity, and this trade gives them a shot to get out of it.
