Heat:
PG: Terry Rozier SG: Jimmy Butler SF: Jaime Jaquez PF: Kawhi Leonard C: Bam Adebayo
Why Miami Does This Deal:
The Heat, while usually great playoff performers, were first round exits this season. Part of this was because of Jimmy Butler’s injury, but they were also going up against an elite Celtics team that they likely wouldn’t have taken down anyway. This Heat time hasn’t changed much since 2020, and while they do boast two finals appearances, both were loses. This trade would essentially be them going all in around Jimmy Butler, and getting rid of some of their depth for another star alongside Jimmy. If correctly used, Kawhi could make this team a legit championship contender. To create the best starting lineup, I moved Jimmy down to the SG so Jaime could start at the SF. I imagine additional trades would be made if they could improve their depth, but the defensive potential of this team is insane, Kawhi just has to stay healthy.
Clippers:
Assuming LA doesn’t make any other moves which is unlikely if this happens
PG: James Harden SG: Tyler Herro SF: Paul George PF: Kyle Flipkowski C: Ivica Zubac
Why LA Does This Deal:
The Clippers have exited the playoffs early once again. It has been proven time and time again that this team will not have success, even if Kawhi is healthy. If they move on from him, I see them letting Harden walk and trading Paul George as well. The lineup above would be if no deals were made, but once again, I don’t see this happening. Miami’s championship window is closing, and I think they’d be willing to take the risk on Kawhi. On the other hand, LA is getting some good assets back that could help start their rebuild. Herro is also someone who could develop into a great player in the right situation, not to mention they also get Jovic and draft capital. I did a mock with Miami’s pick and Flipkowski was available at 15, so I imagine this is who LA would take if given in the opportunity to improve at the PF position.
Draft: Kylie Flipkowski (Duke PF)
Does it make sense for Miami to go all in on Jimmy and take the risk on Kawhi? Is LA getting back enough, or is Miami giving up too much? Where else could Kawhi get sent if he’s moved? Is Kawhi and Jimmy a good fit? Who wins this trade? Let me know down below!
