Why the Magic do it? The Magic upgrade at both guard spots here while consolidating their young players/assets. They improve their shooting here (which they desperately need) and gain some valuable leadership. An extra bonus here is that both Murray and Bogdanovic are signed to solid, long-term contracts.

Why the Mavericks do it? Green hasn’t developed as well as the Mavericks had hoped (he’s struggling considerably this season), Williams hasn’t been quite as productive as the Mavericks had hoped, and Lively is unlikely to be playoff ready. Capela and Hunter would provide the Mavericks with two decent upgrades, both of whom would be beneficial to a team with deep playoff hopes.

Why the Hawks do it? Murray, Capela, Hunter, and Bogdanovic have all been rumored to be on the trade block and, with this trade, the team completely retools their roster. They’d essentially be trading four players over the age of 25 for five rotation players 25-and-under (Okeke and Holmes had to be added for salary purposes), allowing the Hawks to take a completely fresh look around their young core of Trey Young, Jalen Johnson, Saddiq Bey, Onyeka Okongwu, and others while recouping some draft capital as well.
