Heat:
They ship off Jimmy, b/c obviously he's in trade talks. The thing about the Heat however is that they would want to stay competitive no matter who leaves, hence why you'll rarely see them with a top 5 pick or tanking. In this case, they are basically swapping Jimmy for Brandon Ingram. Not perfect, maybe you believe the Heat need more draft compensation or young assets. But, the whole thing is this: The Heat would feel a lot more comfortable giving a 27 year old all-star level player a long term expensive contract than a 35 year old aging Butler. I believe Brandon is the best player you can get out of a Jimmy Butler trade up to this point. Brandon is the same age as Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro is also close in age. Their supporting cast are some really good players too so this allows for a cleaner slate for the Heat overall. Ingram might not be as competitive and a winner like Jimmy Butler is, but again with Jimmy's current value, I feel like this is a good swap for them.
Grizzlies:
Honestly, if you were to ask me what team I'd want Jimmy Butler to go to, it is probably Memphis. Their grit and culture just matches Jimmy. Jimmy is also a 2nd/3rd star for them that shines when the lights are bright. When they need a bucket down the stretch, you'll now have two ball handlers that will go to work, Ja and Jimmy. However, I'm not too confident that the Grizzlies will automatically sign Jimmy to the contract that he wants, due to Memphis already paying Ja, Bane and JJJ. But, if they do work out the contract situation Jimmy on this team would be dangerous for a good 2-4 years. If they let him go in free agency, the only thing they'll miss out on is Brandon Clarke, Marcus Smart, John Konchar (doesn't even play btw) and draft compensation. This is low-risk high-reward for the Grizzlies if they play their cards right.
Pelicans:
Personnel-wise, letting go of Brandon Ingram for Marcus Smart, Clarke and picks seems like a serious downgrade considering that Ingram was the main piece in that AD trade. But, for 6 months, the Pelicans couldn't seem to find a suitable team for Ingram and at one point he was considered a negative asset to them because of his need for a max contract while still on an expiring deal. Brandon Clarke and Marcus Smart are solid though, and I would add picks in this trade as well. Despite the unsure future of the Pelicans, they can both be good veteran pieces whether this team looks to win or tank in the short-term future. Moreover, Marcus Smart and Brandon Clarke's contracts are super tradeable, allowing for an opportunity to seek more assets back to make the Ingram trade all worth it.
