For Cavs, they need a backup point guard badly. Since Jerome is probably going to leave because he is not going to get a good extension with early bird rights with Cavs. Garland has not really lived up to his extension now and is getting a big contract. So they sent him to Chicago for Coby White, a point guard that evolved a lot during his time in the last half of the season. Lonzo is a solid choice around the bench sixth man. Smith is a good big man, and a first. For the Bulls, Garland's defense would not be a problem alongside Giddey. He will grow into a superstar, he is not just at that level right now. Chicago can use him as their building core. Also Cleveland can get under second apron in order to sent multiple players in a trade.
