I'm not loving this trade for a couple reasons. I do think the Heat probably wanna trade Wiggins, after he accepts his player option. He's gonna be 31, I don't know how they necessarily feel about extending him for the money he would want and at least they get some value for him back here. Mitchell is definitely where I feel a little hesitant about them trading away, but I still don't think it's a possible thing they would do, he's gonna be an expiring contract as well next season. It seems like they didn't want to pay him a good contract last offseason, so I don't know if they're gonna wanna pay him a good contract at the next offseason. He's also closing in on thirty trying to extend him for a chunk of money might not be what they're looking to do as he is gonna be 28. I'm only including one pick, because the Spurs are getting 2 expiring contracts in this deal, and they'll have to figure out contract negotiations with them themselves, if you think it shouldn't be a first and probably seconds, I don't necessarily disagree. You essentially protect the pick, if it were to jump up in the lottery, this way you don't give up a top pick.
So now that I've stated all the reasons why I think the Heat would potentially trade away those things. Let's get into potential deal breaker, do the heat wanna take on Fox's contract. I think there will be a lot of people who say "No" simply because he has not played well in these playoffs, and while I'm of the opinion Harper is probably better next season. I think that's not an indictment on Fox as it is a understanding Harper is a top talent. So whenever you are acquiring an all-star level player, and you have probably have the best coach in the league you always have the understanding of, he'll probably play better for you than he did for them. So they would look at an about to be 29 year old who's locked up on a long term deal and he's a needle mover for this team that just got bounced out of the play-in. You could definitely argue to extend Wiggins and Mitchell might not cost as much it is for Fox's contract. I just don't necessarily know what Pat Rileys gonna do this offseason, and this for some reason just sticks out of my mind as something he would do.
I don't think I really need to go into too much details about the Spurs. The idea is next season they believe Harper is better than Fox. I don't think you really need to go into more detail than that.
