Why the 76ers do it:
They get multiple sold role players and a young center who has potential in Ryan Kalkbrenner. They also receive the Hornets first round pick next season and two future seconds. This allows them to rebuild around Maxey and VJ, while also gaining draft capital to build a strong front court in their new era without Embiid.
Why the Hornets do it:
The Hornets have been one of the best teams in the NBA in 2026. Their main weakness is their front court. They are trading their starting power forward in Miles Bridges but I think they can definitely replace him. They also still have Moussa Diabate for when Embiid is hurt. This allows them to have one of the best teams in the NBA when healthy while only giving up two real rotational players. They are buying low on a former MVP who is often hurt. A good route for them is to draft Yaxel Lendeborg in this year’s draft. He is very NBA ready and could possibly start in just two seasons if he can develop well.
