Kings are stuck with the #7 pick, which is not sexy and won't help them in the short term since it is likely that Brayden Burries is the best available option. In this trade, Kings get JA, the 16th pick, the 32nd pick and a first in 2029, all from Memphis in exchange for the #7 and the overpriced contract of LaVine. There still is lots of value in this draft at 16 (and 32) and Kings would have a dynamic playmaker in JA, who was 2nd team all NBA just 2 years ago and is still young.
For the Thunder this is about the money. Hartenstein and #17 in the 2026 NBA Draft come to Memphis in exchange for a 2029 2nd round pick. Hartenstein's deal almost perfectly fits inside the traded player exception for Jaren Jackson JR. OKC can keep much of the rest of their core intact, hoping that they can draft Mara with the 12th pick to fill the void. And the Grizzlies just got a heck of a backup center behind Zach Edey for a year.
For Memphis this clears their books for after next season by taking on two expensive expiring contracts in LaVine and Hartenstein, but also giving them veteran proven winners to mentor their young roster.
The Grizzlies new lineup would look something like this- Point Guard - Ty Jerome, Scotty Pippen Jr., Cam Spencer
Shooting Guard - Jaylen Wells, Zach LaVine, Brayden Burries(7th pick)
Small Forward - Cedric Coward, GG Jackson, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope
Power Forward - Cameron Boozer(3rd pick), Santi Aldama, Yaxel Lendeborg(17th pick)
Center - Zach Edey, Isaiah Hartenstein, Taylor Hendricks
Memphis would probably target a PG with either a trade or 2027 draft, but Ty Jerome was remarkably efficient last season and SPJ is an excellent defender
