Heat Land Trae Young
Heat Receive:
Trae Young
Clint Capela
Jalen Johnson
The Heat don't do this deal to simply fill a positional need. They do it to acquire one of the best playmakers in basketball. That’s what Young is. On the other hand, he’s also one of the worst defensive players in the NBA. Luckily, Jimmy Butler can cover for some of his shortcomings in that regard. So can Capela. The Heat replace their starting center immediately in this deal while adding an elite offensive player.

Hawks Receive:
Bam Adebayo
Tyler Herro
Duncan Robinson
Two First-Round Picks
If Atlanta is interested in flipping Young for Adebayo and Herro, they might as well add their starting big man into the package. That’s part of the reason they’re getting a pair of first-round picks here. The other is their willingness to take on Duncan Robinson’s deal. Is that adequate value for them? Yes. This deal recoups some of the draft capital they lost in the Murray deal. It also gives them a strong defensive identity. All told, this is a good trade for the Hawks if they’ve got non-basketball reasons to move Young.
