Currently the record for most 3's made in a season by a team is the 2024-25 Boston Celtics which made 1,457 3's that year. They attempted 48.2 3's a night, made 17.8 at a 36.8% 3pt rate. The Hornets last year shot 5 less 3's then them while still making 16.4 a night. They also shot 37.8% from 3.
In total they made 1,343 in total last year.
Yes, that is 100 less and LaMelo will be gone which definitely hurts but let's just show you the stats.
Kon Knueppel - last year made 273 3's which I think he led the NBA in 3's
Brandon Miller - made 204 3's last year. While playing 16 less games than Kon
Coby White - made 115 last year while playing 50 total games
So those 3 guys right there made 592 3's last year in total. Since those 3 will be the main leaders and take on LaMelo's 3s, lets say if Kon plays 80 games again he will have 300 3's, if BMill plays 70 games, he will have like 230, and Coby White if he plays 65 games, he will have like 150.
Now that is about 680 3's.
So now let's see the 3's we lost with LaMelo and Bridges and see how it compares with Allen,Reid and O'neale
Bridges and LaMelo combined made 420 3's
O'Neale, Allen and Reid combined made 533 3's.
Yes it is 3-2 in players but it is still an increase. Reid will have more of a role, Allen and O'Neale probably lesser of a role. So in total, let's just say they make 500 this year
That is now about 1,180 3's, about 275 away from the celtics
SOOOO now, we need to bring in the scrubs
Diabate and Kalkbrenner made a total of 1 3pt last year so we will say they only make 1 again
Steinbach and Anderson Jr are interesting to watch. Steinbach didn't shoot many 3's in the summer league and it seems like Coach Lee doesn't like his bigs to shoot 3's . Anderson made about 100 3's in colleges last year and he will play more games but less minutes. So let's say Steinbach and Anderson make 70 together
Sion James made 83 last year, lets say he makes 75 this year
Grant Williams made about 50 last year but missed more than half the season so let's say he makes 110.
Schroder made about 75 last year but he will take on a bigger role so lets say he makes 100
All the other guys, Tidjane, Connaughton, whoever the 2 ways are and maybe some 10 day contracts, lets say they make 100 in total
So the 1,180 + 1 + 70 + 75 + 110 + 100 + 100 = 1636
The record is 1,457 which is a lot but based off the numbers, I think the Hornets will either break the record or come very close to breaking it. I am probably overestimating the number as well. Realistically it would probably be more like 1500. But, based off my logic I got 1636.
