once the season starts grant will have the oppurtunity to prove if he is healthy, and if he is then teams would love to grab him and have him fill a vet forward role for regular season play as he tanks out his 1 year contract on a bad team. Unlucky for the clippers it will be them who needs draft capitol the most, and they need to get off of any player who has no more room to grow.
Rui has hit his ceiling for the lakers, and he is a certified role player and has potential to fill in for playoff runs or long stretches of regular season games producing off the bench or filling in for hurt players. The clippers will want to get off of him because they have now dug them selves in a hole where they basically have to reconstruct their entire team to be under the age of 24, and start getting back draft capitol with the current assets they have.
Clippers getting grant allows them to rebuild 1 year faster at the forward spot and start shopping young talent who they can build in the wing spot. If it works out best for them, Grant would be able to play healthy for the clippers and play small ball, and would likely resign with the clippers on a pay cut, and eventually a vet minimum. What would most likely happen is they would play Grant heavy minutes at the 4, and he would reinjure himself, they would rehab him, then not sign him in free agency, and they would package ingram, bradley beal, max strauss, derrick jones jr in packages that score the most amount of 1st round picks and young cheap players that can keep the clippers above water.
The hornets just so happen to have a ton of 1st round picks and 2nd round picks that we need to trade away. We could trade a lot for darius garland ( unlikely). We could target brandon ingram, or just simply be a part of a 3-4 team trade where we can use our 1st round2nd round picks to favor a player we like from a team to develop in charlotte or start right away.
