It's not my ideal off-season just a realistic and great one in the eventually that the Hornets cannot go and get their 'missing piece'. This piece to me is either Jaden McDaniels, OG Anunoby or a lil' more risky Kawhi Leonard. Of course getting one of OG or Jaden would probably be through a trade in which New York or Minny gets Giannis. For Kawhi it could just be straight up for a package like Miles, Josh Green, a rookie and picks.
I also considered that Peyton Watson would resign with Denver or that another team would give him too much money. Watson also being a good option for what Hornets are missing.
So here we are, calm summer but a great one still.
First, the draft. After simulating a mock, Hornets ended up with pick 14 & 17 and I selected Morez Johnson Jr. and Dailyn Swain. Didn't select a second rounder but he would get a two-way contract. Morez Johnson could play the 5 or the 4 next to Moose or Gaff, he did play next to Aday Mara in the winning Michigan team. Does it all guy with amazing motor and energy and has shown that he worked on his range and could eventually become a stretch big down the line. Swain would play the 3 and bring in much needed driving and rim pressure as well as connective and possibly secondary playmaking and amazing tools to become a serious to amazing defender.
Then the Hornets would trade Ryan Kalkbrenner, Tre Mann and 2 seconds for Daniel Gafford. Yes, Kalk been good but he's way too soft and if we can get a direct upgrade for next season I'm in. Mavs get two young guys that been good and two seconds helping them getting some draft capital back. And the Hornets get freaking Daniel Gafford, amazing rebounder, great finisher and shoot blocker and would be playing defensively the drop scheme Kalk played this season. Fit is great.
I considered trading Josh Green, playing time has lowered with the emergence of Sion, but didn't find a good and fitting player in return.
So finally, Hornets would give a two-year about 6-7M deal to Craig Porter Jr. He's a great passer and has shown good things in limited minutes in Cleveland, now that they brought a lot of guard depth he would probably be available and could be the third PG we need behind Melo and Coby.
Coby White gets his extension something like 45M 3-year deal and Brandon gets his as well, maybe a 120M 4-year deal.
Roster would look like : PG : LaMelo Ball / Coby White / Craig Porter Jr. SG : Brandon Miller / Sion James / Josh Green SF : Kon Knueppel / Dailyn Swain / Liam McNeeley PF : Miles Bridges / Grant Williams / Tidjane Salaun C : Moussa Diabate / Daniel Gafford / Morez Johnson Jr.
I wish I could've bring back Pat Connaughton for the vibes and the bench celebrations tho.
