Why Hornets Do It: If the Hornets select Scoot Henderson with the #2 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft then Terry Rozier will have to be shipped to another team to make room for Scoot Henderson. Evan Fournier has a team option for next season. So it’s essentially a 1 year deal. He also has familiarity with Steve Clifford during his tenure with the Orlando Magic from 2019-2021. Evan Fournier likely would come off the bench at SF or SG. Obi Toppin gets a chance after being a reserve player on the Knicks the past few years. He might not be a star but he can be a good energy guy and has shown he can shoot from distance. Charlotte also gets a 2025 1st rounder(via Bucks) in the deal.

This trade gives New York the ability to play efficiently on both ends without sacrificing too much. JT Thor Is also thrown in to add some defense and also replace Obi Toppin. A 2026 2nd round pick is also thrown in as a sweetener.
