This question is being asked due to one simple reason:
Both Lauri Markkanen and AJ Dybantsa live in the state of Utah.
Lauri Markkanen plays for the Utah Jazz and lives in Salt Lake City, Utah. Meanwhile, AJ Dybantsa is a high schooler who lives in Hurricane, Utah and plays for Utah Prep, and has recently moved to Utah as well. Another reason why they are intertwined is outside of living in a zip code located in Utah, is because the future of the Utah Jazz lies somewhat within their hands. Utah has never won any given draft lottery in franchise history, and this current rebuild (or potential rebuild) can put an end to that. In order for the Jazz to gain optimal odds at the #1 pick in 2025 or the #1 pick in 2026, I do think trading Lauri Markkanen is a quintessential stepping stone to achieve that.
Therefore, between keeping and building around Lauri Markkanen for the foreseeable future versus tanking for a high pick in 2026, which would be the more optimal direction for the Jazz?
