I think the Jazz are in a position to push for the playoffs and convey their 2024 first round pick (Top 10 protected pick owed to OKC). The 2024 draft is widely considered to be a weak draft at the top, and by conveying their pick this year, they will have their pick in the 2025 pick which is thought to be a better draft. They will also be able to fully take advantage of the draft swap rights they have in 2026 with the Cavs or Timberwolves if either of those teams end up having a worse record in 2026.

The Jazz seem poised on building a team around Lauri Markkanen instead of tearing things down even further for their rebuild. With that in mind, Lavine seems like a cheap option available on the trade market due to his contract that would be a good upgrade for their team right now. Although he has had some injury concerns, he's an efficient scorer and in a similar age range of Lauri Markkanen.

Clarkson has been a fan favorite, and is loved by the team and locker room, but he's also been one of the least efficient players in the league. Replacing his minutes with Lavine's would give an additional offensive boost to solidy their team going forward. The large contract will likely prevent the Jazz from extending Markkanen a year early in the 2024 off season since they won't have cap space to max extend him, but if Markkanen is bought in to the Jazz going forward, the Jazz can max extend him in the summer of 2025 when he becomes an unrestricted free agent.

Since Lavine's price tag is cheap due to his large contract, the Jazz will still have a boone of draft picks avaialable for them to trade, and will have the John Collins and Lavine contracts at their disposal to match salaries for future trades in any large deals they pursue to build around Markkanen.

The Bulls take this opportunity to get off of Lavine's huge contract, and start the rebuild process. one unprotected pick seems to be more than what any teams are offering at the moment due to concerns with upcoming cap changes. The Bulls can also look to move Clarkson for expiring salary and a 2nd round pick or two as well if they want to make this a 3 team trade, or a seperate deal altogether.
