NCAA Top 15 Rankings
Happy New Year
Kansas (12-1) Big-12
Kansas show comeback talent when they rallied back from a 15-point halftime deficit to beat the OSU Cowboys Saturday. Jalen Wilson scores 21.1 points per game and shoots 42% from the field. Grady Dick averaging 15.4 points per game and shooting 48% from 3 have this team on a string. Night for night, they are prepared to continue to defend their national title. Dajuan Harris keeps this team fluid with 6.6 assists per game.
Purdue (13-0) Big-10
The way that Zach Edey is playing ball right now scoring 22.6 points per game and grabbing 13.9 rebounds, puts him as a player of the year and will be considered for the number one pick in my opinion. Be that as it may, they might be the toughest problem in the Big 10.
Arizona (13-1) Pac-12
This team is well-rounded, a deadly weapon behind the 3-point line, and that attack starts in the trenches. Azuolas Tubelis's 20.1 points per game, 8.7 rebounds, and Oumar Ballo’s 17.8 points, and 9.1 rebounds open the game for Arizona’s guard play.
UConn (14-1) Big East
6-5 Sophomore Jordan Hawkins, is a top 5 scorer (ability) in the nation this season. He poses numbers of 14.3 points per game, shooting 42% from the 3. Adama Sanogo's power and force in the paint make them the favorite in the Big East and a contender in the national title race with his 18.6 points per game and 7.2 rebounds off 62% shooting. Villanova was a big test for the Huskies but they proved themselves ready. Hawkins put up 22 & 7 rebounds to push the club over the Wildcats. While an impressive effort in their first battle, the Huskies fell short to Xavier, Adama Sanogo led the team with 18.
Houston (14-1) AAC
The Cougars have to be one of America's favorite teams at the moment. After a vigilant effort in the tournament last year, coach Kelvin Sampson’s system has shown they are the real deal. Marcus Sasser continues to prove he is among the elite scoring about 16 points per game and shooting 84% from the free-throw line. Newcomer Jarace Walker’s 9.5 points per game, 6.2 rebounds, off 49% shooting gives this Houston team versatility with his ability to perform on the wing and in the paint in a small ball lineup. Jamal Snead continues to keep this team fluid with his 5.8 assists per game In their last outing Sasser contributed 12 points and 5 assists against UCF
Texas (12-1) Big-12
As a proud Longhorn fan, We had a pretty good showing against a lengthy PAC-12’s Stanford who looks to have two potential prospects to go in this year's NBA draft. Freshman Arterio Morris performed extremely well against Louisiana. Also, we continue to learn how multifaceted this deep, veteran lead squad is, as we witness Marcus Carr 41 point explosion against Texas A&M Commerce Tuesday night. With eight, three-pointers in the 1st half Carr put the team on his back. They went and rallied as a team in the Red River Rivalry defeating the Sooners by one point.
Miami (13-1) ACC
This just might be the toughest team to battle in the ACC. Norchad Omier 13.5 points per game and 9.7 rebounds make him the anchor on this unit. Isaiah Wong posts 17.2 points per game and 4.5 assists while shooting 81% from the free throw line, which pushes this team to perform at a high level.
Alabama (11-2) SEC
Brandon Miller’s stock just keeps rising. He is posting 19.3 points per game, and 8.7 rebounds, while shooting 83% from the line and 44% from the three. Though they suffered a heartbreaking loss to Gonzaga, this team is truly a contender in the SEC and for the national title. Bama looks strong in their 1st SEC battle against Miss State giving them their second loss of the season.
Virginia (10-2) ACC
Such a talented group, of well-manicured guard-play out of the Cavaliers. We’ve learned so much from the two consecutive losses the Cavaliers took from top 25 opponents, Houston and Miami. The common dominator, in my opinion, was tenacity. I've watched the grit of this Virginia team just get out-dueled in both bouts. I think they could benefit from starting their younger guy, Ryan Dunn.
Tennessee (11-2) SEC
The Volunteers are a well-balanced group with the right amount of size, depth, and shooting ability to compete in the national spotlight. Julian Phillips is one of the best guards in the SEC posting 10.6 points per game, 5.6 rebounds, and shooting 81% from the line. This unit coached by Rick Barnes one of the nation's most dangerous teams.
UCLA (13-2) Pac-12
So much untapped potential on the Bruins squad Jamie Jaquez has been one of the most efficient scores in the nation for quite some time posting about 17 points per game, and grabbing 6.2 rebounds through 13 games. . With the help of Jaylen Clark’s 15.7 points per game and 6.7 rebounds, this group makes a push into my top 15.
Arkansas (11-2) SEC
The Razorbacks have one of the most talented groups this season as Nick Smith plays, coming off an injury through 5 games he averages 12.8 points per game, shooting 84% from the free brow line. Anthony Black continues to show the world that he is a lottery pick with 12.6 points per game, 4.9 rebounds, and 3.7 assists. Just fell shot in their battle against LSU, missing Smith due to injury, lack of aggression for Black, and lack of structure from their coach all contributed to the loss @LSU
New Mexico (12-0) Mountain West
What a stellar performance from coach Richard Pitino, defeating and continuing the legacy of the Pitino name. This comes as no surprise. Led by a cast of mostly seniors. Jr. guard Jamal Mashburn Jr., leads the team in scoring with 16.8 points per game.
Charleston (14-1) CAA
This group takes on takes on the personality and swagger of their head coach Pat Kelsey. Raekwon Horton is a young sophomore, 6’6 from Santee, South Carolina, who I believe is the X-factor and could put the nation on notice once the NCAA tournament rolls around.
TCU (12-1) Big-12
Mike Miles & Emanuel Miller lead a really tough group, with great expectations for this team attempting to recreate the sweet 16 success they achieved just a year ago. Miles put up 23 pts and Miller with 16 and 16 over the weekend. They are proving to be quite a tandem.
