Getting Divincenzo back should be the main focus for the Knicks this summer he completes their starting 5 but he may only be obtainable if MIN trades him in a package for a star player and New York can swoop in as a 3rd team.
Justin Champagnie is a cheap backup wing that can give the Knicks some much needed wing depth and some more scoring off the bench. Washington gets their pick back as well as a valuable locker room voice in PJ Tucker for what will be a young team with even more rookies next year, Washington can try to be this years Detroit next year if they land Flagg. Overall, Champagnie and Hart moving to the bench gives the Knicks the bench wing depth they have lacked.
Since I did not use the Taxpayer Mid-Level Exception the Knicks are not hard capped this year at the second apron so they can go over the bring back in this scenario Cam Payne and Landry Shamet to maintain depth and for Payne to be the backup PG.
For the draft I think that the Knicks should target Miles Byrd a young wing/guard from San Diego State at just age 20 at the moment. The Knicks second round pick via MEM currently sits at #50 and I would even consider moving up a but for Byrd. Byrd, Dadiet, and a more ready now player in McCullar Jr. gives the Knicks lots of wing depth and exciting options for the future once developed.
Last but not least, the most important thing otherwise all this does not matter is firing head coach Tom Thibodeau and hiring a new younger coaching mind that can be more creative on offense as well as bring some new defensive schemes to this team. I think this team with this added depth and Divo back will take a huge leap with the right Head Coach in here. This roster is beyond talented and can definetly compete for a championship, but they have to get the coach right. Some potential top candidates for the Knicks could be Chris Quinn, Sam Cassell, Johnnie Bryant, and even Dan Hurley among many others. The Knicks should and will cast a wide net during the process of finding their new coach. In the end I believe Chris Quinn an assistant coach from the Erik Spoelstra staff in Miami could be the pick for New York.
Roster could look like this in the end
Head Coach: Chris Quinn
Lineup PG: Jalen Brunson SG: Donte Divincenzo SF: Mikal Bridges PF: OG Anunoby C: Karl-Anthony Towns
6th: Josh Hart 7th: Mitchell Robinson 8th: Justin Champagnie 9th: Cam Payne DEPTH: Landry Shamet DEPTH: Ariel Hukporti DEPTH: Kevin McCullar Jr. DEPTH: Pacome Dadiet DEPTH: Miles Byrd (Or any rookie drafted via MEM second round pick)
