Blockbuster: Knicks/76ers/Jazz - Centers on the move

SUCCESS

With the news that Quentin Grimes and the 76ers are far apart on contract negotiations, I tried to make a trade that would allow them to clear cap space to sign him to a contract that was near what reports say he wanted and of course get the Knicks involved. And as Walker Kessler on the Jazz are also reportedly not going to reach an agreement on an extension, I looped him in as well. Team by team below.

76ers: The Sixers have reportedly been looking for trade partners to ship out either Drummond or Oubre and the Knicks step up here. Now, it's extremely unlikely the Sixers would trade with a division rival, but I tried to make it as fair as possible. Trading Oubre allows them to clear space to sign Grimes to a contract he's looking for and reward him for his great play after he was traded to the Sixers last year. Since the Jazz need to ship out salary in order to make this trade work, I chose Brice Sensabaugh as a young wing to help replace Oubre while still letting them save salary. He shot very well from 3 last year and while he needs work on the defensive side, there's definitely upside to him.

Jazz: As referenced above, Kessler and the Jazz are reportedly far apart in negotiations. Danny Ainge has waited too long to extract value from Clarkson and Collins, so could he decide to try and trade Kessler now to avoid getting nothing in return if he walks at the end of his contract? In this scenario, the Jazz get Mitch in exchange. Mitch is also looking for a new contract but it probably won't be as high as Kessler would get and he's still one of the best (if not the best) offensive rebounders and rim protectors in the league. He's still only 27 and has plenty of years ahead of him. They also get Tyler Kolek as they don't have a ton of depth at PG and he's on a cheap contract for 3 seasons and has shown promise. Finally they get the FRP from Washington and a 2nd round pick. The FRP is heavily protected and is likely to turn into 2 seconds but again, Kessler's trade value has declined and the Jazz have lost leverage. They do lose Sensabaugh but they have good depth at wing.

Knicks: Finally to my team the Knicks. Losing Mitch is rough but the Knicks get Kessler who they've inquired about before and add a young center to backup KAT and who they would hopefully come to an agreement on an extension for the future. They also get Oubre, who is a starter level or near starter level player who gives them more depth at wing. They need size in the second unit and could either start Deuce at the 2 or Oubre at the 3/4. Either way, they're adding solid 3 point shooting and defense to the starting lineup. And their depth chart would look amazing as this also clears enough space for them to sign both Brogdon and Shamet.

Starters: Brunson, Bridges, Deuce/Oubre, OG, KAT

Backups: Brogdon, Deuce/Oubre, Hart, Yabusuele, Kessler

Rotation Players: Clarkson, Shamet, Dadiet, Hukporti
