I've been doing a lot of Mitch trades recently as he seems to be the main trade piece that the Knicks could utilize. I say this because while the two bigs lineup did have some success, the 5-out offense still seems to be the best option with Deuce taking Hart's place in the starting 5. Plus, from a salary cap management standpoint, since Mitch is eligible for an extension, he likely wants a raise. Combined, KAT and Mitch's salaries make up around 1/3 of the Knicks total cap. If Mitch gets an extension then that percentage may rise and it doesn't seem feasible to have so much invested in the Center position. The Knicks would be better served investing in wings and forwards who can guard more positions and ideally hit threes. I'll also add that a few things need to happen in order for both sides to even consider this.
For the Knicks, it would be much easier to make this decision if Hukporti and Nnaji look good in summer league and they project they could be solid backups. There is also the option of using Yabusele as a small ball 5 as he's sometimes been used. Moody would give the Knicks more size on the wings and could even look to start as he's looked solid on defense and is still improving. Clarkson, Deuce and Kolek could step in as the distributors on the second unit if a backup PG isn't signed as they've all shown improvement in assists. Basically, the Knicks get a solid wing who's on a long term contract and who fits in more lineups.
For the Warriors, it would mean one of two (or in worst case both) things happen. First, if the Warriors sign Beal (he's still most likely going to end up on the Clippers but it appears the Warriors have entered the fray) then they have a lot of guards on the team and need more size. Second, if the Warriors miss out on Horford (Denver now has a stronger case if Valanciunas walks) they would go into the season with Trayce Jackson-Davis as their tallest player. Even if they do sign Horford, they may want the option for another type of center to throw at teams. Mitch would give them a defensive juggernaut, especially if they roll out lineups with Hield or Beal as those will need some defensive fortifications. He's a rebounding and block machine and can be dominant on the offensive boards as well. And with Curry on the team, the threat of giving him multiple chances to hit 3s would be a terrifying one for opposing teams.
