4 Team Trade: Warriors, Bulls, 76ers, Knicks

SUCCESS

So as a Knicks fan, this is primarily a Knicks trade, but also one that's trying to take into account the movements around the league. There still is a lot of uncertainty of the market for Mitch and I think if the Knicks do make a trade, it will be one that capitalizes on another trade happening. In this case, they hop onto the Warriors-Bulls trade for Vucevic. The Bulls are reportedly trying to get rid of long term contracts (Coby White's name has surprisingly showed up as well) and get picks back. Below is my rough team by team rationale for this trade.

Warriors: The rumors of the Warriors wanting Vucevic just aren't going away and it seems like they're gaining steam. This trade sees them trade out some veteran players and second round picks to get him. The Warriors are refusing to include any FRPs so I had them include 3 second rounders instead. They'd still have depth at the center and forward positions but Vucevic gives them an offensive threat and one who's been playing great this year. They could also try to add Craig or Carter to fill out their roster after sending out several players.

76ers: As I've said in previous trades, the 76ers have had a rough season and given that they're closer to the 6th worst record than the playoffs (I'm not counting the play-in, more on that), they may decide to try and tank in an effort to get a top 6 pick in a stacked 2025 draft class. The 76ers had dreams of contention when they acquired Paul George but injuries have held them back and that trend looks to continue with Embiid still out and several other role players injured as well. It may be better to try and get some assets back and manage the health of their superstars (Maxey, PG, Embiid) than to try and make a push for the playoffs and have to face either the Cavs or Celtics if they win out of the play-in. They lose Drummond, but gain a younger, albeit not as talented version in Sims. They also get a 2025 second round pick which would potentially give them a second pick in the 2025 draft (they currently have none).

Bulls: The Bulls are trying to clean out their long term contracts and to do that they send out Vucevic in what could be the beginning of several other trades (LaVine, Patrick Williams, Coby White). In this case, both Gary Payton Jr. and Kevon Looney are expiring contracts and they send Kyle Anderson to the Knicks as he's the only long term contract. They also get to take a chance on Mitch as they can afford to wait out his health and potentially keep him or rehab his trade value and flip him in the offseason. They get several second round picks as well. They also lose Horton-Tucker, but it's unclear he was a part of their future plans.

Knicks: Losing Mitch is incredibly rough, but my worry with him is if he'll be back this year and what version of Mitch we'll see. His value is lower due to his injuries and there's no guarantee that he'd be healthy in the offseason in which case the Knicks would have waited for nothing. This trade gets the Knicks some wing depth with Horton-Tucker and Anderson and gets them a solid backup big in Drummond. They lose Sims who they're also reportedly shopping but they also shed salary. And they can take on 3 players while sending out 2 because they currently have an open roster spot. They go from 8-9 players in the rotation to 11 (or 12 if you include Shamet who's been getting more play time). New depth chart below:

PG: Brunson, Payne, Kolek SG: Hart, Deuce, Shamet SF: Bridges, Horton-Tucker, Dadiet PF: OG, Anderson C: KAT, Drummond, Achiuwa, Hukporti
