With Og looking like a great fit for NY, it’s time for the Knicks to look at the next needed piece. After trading Quickley and Barrett, they are really lacking self creation outside of Randle and Brunson, and also desperately need someone to play the point when Brunson needs rest. Deuce really struggles on offense and Flynn was known as a shot chucker and nothing else in Toronto. To kill two birds with one stone, how bout getting a former Allstar? While Murray has regressed as a defender, he plays the passing lane well, and with Og taking the main defensive assignment and in a Thibs defensive scheme, he could still be really great on defense. While starting at the sg, he can immediately slide into the pg when Brunson comes off, letting him run a bench unit that could consist of Divincenzo, Hart, and Achiuwa, while mixing and matching starters like Anunoby and Randle. His on and off-ball capabilities, defensive potential, timeline, and contract make him a very enticing all-star level teammate to put with Brunson, Randle, and Anunoby. However, it all comes down to the Hawks, Klutch sports, and the price. It is unclear the asking price for him from the underperforming hawks, who just signed him to a large 4 year extension. At most, the Knicks could probably offer Fournier, grimes, and any amount of picks. This could get the deal done, however, rich paul would need to sign off, as him and Leon Rose have longstanding beef. However, it has been said that the dispute could end if they meet. If all goes well, Knicks could very well have another elite player to push for the chip.
