A more realistic Knicks trade: Jose Alvarado and Marvin Bagley III

SUCCESS

My last trade was very complicated and highly unrealistic. So for a change of pace I tried to come up with a more realistic idea based on reporting and the Knicks needs.

Wizards: The Wizards are in rebuild mode and since Bagley is on a minimum expiring contract, they're not losing much. They can afford to lose him and to take on additional salary. Yabu fits in a similar position and is supposed to be a good presence in the locker room. He does have a 2 year contract but next year is a player option so he's motivated to play well (although maybe the Wizards will hope not too well). They don't get much of a return but a second round pick could be all it takes. If their protected FRP is in play, then I would say the Knicks may want to go for Champagnie instead but I feel like he's probably staying in Washington.

Pelicans: The Pelicans are reportedly open to trading Alvarado who will be lower on the depth chart now that Poole is back (not to mention that Murray is still out hurt). He has a player option next year so he might leave anyways so they may be open to trading him for a couple of second round picks. They take a chance on Dadiet, who as I've said, isn't really an asset but he is only 20 years old and has the potential to be a 3 and D wing.

Knicks: The Knicks reportedly want a backup PG with more experience and more size and frontcourt depth. Kolek has been playing great (compared to expectations) but the Knicks may want someone with more NBA experience and defensive chops. Alvarado is a solid playmaker who would fit the Knicks system well and provide good 2-way play. Bagley may have had an underwhelming career for being the #2 pick, but he's slowly improved and is playing well this year. He also could slot in behind OG and could play some center as well. He's definitely not the defender that OG is, but I think he's closer to a positive on defense and can rebound and shoot reasonably well (plus he's only on a minimum, we're not expecting game changing players at this point). I'm also still a bit worried about our center depth as KAT frequently struggles with foul trouble, Mitch has his injury issues (and sometimes gets sat due to his free throw shooting issues) and Hukporti is also foul-prone. He could fill in as needed at PF or C and that's valuable. Plus, the Knicks do lower their salary and have an open roster spot so they could utilize the buyout market. Again, due to their restrictions as a second apron team (can't sign a buyout candidate who makes more than $14.1), there's not a ton of players who fit there who may be bought out (Georges Niang? Matisse Thybulle?). Depth chart below:

PG: Brunson, Alvarado, Kolek

SG: Bridges, Deuce, Clarkson

SF: Hart, Shamet

PF: Anunoby, Bagley, Diawara

C: KAT, Mitch, Hukporti
