3 team trade: Knicks/Wizards/Bulls

SUCCESS

Since Brogdon retired, it's looked less likely that the Knicks will make a trade, but we were all shocked twice last year when Leon Rose pulled trades for Bridges and KAT. This trade combines a couple of my trades, some even going back to last season. Team by team below:

Wizards: I really wish Dadiet had made this easier but he did neither himself or the Knicks any favors with some lackluster preseason performances. That being said, you could see the flashes in both his defensive work and when he hit 2 straight threes at the beginning of the game against the Wizards. Champagnie has been a good story for the Wizards and is a solid player on a cheap contract. However, I'm hoping the Wizards will be tempted by 2 things. First, that Dadiet is a full 4 years younger than Champagnie and they'll have more time to develop Dadiet. Second, that the Knicks are giving back the protected FRP. Now this was unlikely to convey anyways, but it opens it up for the Wizards to use in subsequent trades and they won't lose 2 second rounders in the future.

Bulls: the Bulls do this because Vucevic has looked halfway out the door for a while now and Mitch could be their center of the future. Yes, he has injury problems, but he's one of the best defensive bigs and offensive rebounders in the game and if he's not seeing the extension numbers he wants from the Knicks, maybe the Bulls come calling. Jalen Smith is a solid center but he didn't get a ton of minutes last year (around 15 or so) and a frontcourt of Collins and Mitch is a pretty solid one (again assuming at some point Vucevic leaves either through trade or buyout). Despite the injuries, I'd still say Mitch is the better player and I hope the Bulls FO feels the same. I could see having to add some second rounders, but I'd obviously prefer to keep it simple.

Knicks: And to my team, the Knicks! The Knicks replace Mitch with a player who doesn't have his impact on defense but who has a decent 3 point shot and who's numbers are solid. Smith can soak up a good amount of minutes and Hukporti has also looked good in preseason. I actually have also liked Jemison as well and hope there's a way to convert his 2-way contract later in the season. I mainly think that Smith gives the Knicks a more manageable center rotation from a minutes mangagement standpoint as well as a bit of a boost on offense with a more diverse shot profile. Champagnie is also a key piece of this as he's looked to be a solid role player on the wing. He has a good 3 point shot and has looked good on defense as well. The Knicks have little wing depth and this allows them to address that issue. The Knicks would also re-sign Shamet and sign Diawara as well who I've really liked in preseason. The Knicks would then have more cap space to potentially take a flier on some different free agents. Jared Butler just got released and could shore up the PG depth chart and Victor Oladipo looked pretty great in the preseason games against the Spurs. The Knicks also may have more space to potentially make a real run at Malik Beasley. Regardless, they'd have room to navigate the buyout market after the trade deadline mid-season and also would get to put off worrying about Mitch's extension for next season.

Depth Chart:

PG: Brunson, Kolek

SG: Deuce, Clarkson, Shamet

SF: Bridges, Hart, Champagnie

PF: OG, Yabusuele, Diawara

C: KAT, Smith, Hukporti

I like the look of that depth chart and I could actually also see the Knicks going a bit bigger and playing Champagnie or Yabusuele next to KAT at stretches.
