This involves two players that may be in the move anyways. The Kings have made no secret of their desire to move Malik Monk. They will also need to pay Ellis in a year. Knicks seem unwilling/unable to pay bridges the maximum extension.
Why the Knicks do this: Malik monk is signed for 3 years on a reasonable contract, operates best as a 2 guard next to a good point guard. Brunson is that in spades. Ellis is young and has lots of potential. He could turn into a 6th man candidate if he continues to progress. The 2027 1st is there to put this over the finish line.
Why the kings do this: Malik wants out, Ellis will need a huge raise next season, and they aren’t getting any better as a franchise. Bridges is an ideal 3&D player who can fit any system. He is just entering his prime and would take pressure off Levine and Sabonis. He is an upgrade defensively as well.
