The Rockets got truly terrible news as FVV has torn his ACL and will likely miss the entire season. They were looking at being contenders and now have lost their starting PG and veteran leader. The Knicks are also trying to contend for the title this year and if their training camp is anything to go by, they're likely going to have a surplus of guards. This trade sees them send out 2 guards for a forward, which is arguably the position with the least depth.
Rockets: The Rockets are in a tough position as they were expecting to contend and losing their starting PG, especially one of FVV's quality is beyond rough. Deuce and Kolek by no means will replace him, but they could help replace some of what FVV brings. Deuce is a great defender and historically shoots well from 3. He's really more of a SG much has backed up Brunson and since there are other great passers in the starting lineup (Sengun, Durant, etc) that they might not need as much of that as you think. Kolek is more of a break glass in case of emergency PG as he's largely untested but has shown promise. Since most of their roster isn't eligible to be traded, they don't have many options and this is one of them, albeit a very unlikely one.
Knicks: Losing Deuce would hurt, like really really hurt. He's been amazing and I'm of the opinion that there need to be starting lineups with him in them at least tested. Kolek has shown promise but is still raw and given the Knicks are potentially looking at signing Brogdon AND Shamet, it doesn't seem like they see a future for him. However, the forward rotation is one of the weakest ones for the Knicks and adding Eason to it would give them 3 high level wing defenders in Bridges, OG and Eason which could go a long way in masking any defensive deficiencies from starting Brunson and KAT. He has a decent 3 point shot but this move is mainly for defense. Their depth chart would look like this which honestly looks pretty good!
PG: Brunson, Brogdon
SG: Bridges, Shamet
SF: OG, Hart, Dadiet
PF: Eason, Yabusuele, Diawara (2nd round exception)
C: KAT, Mitch, Hukporti
I'm sure this is going to be a divisive one for both Knicks and Rockets fans so sound off in the comments below!
