Modifying another CBS Sports trade: Knicks, Bucks and Warriors

FAILED

The Giannis trades are coming fast now and there's even odds on which team he'll end up on which is still just wild to me. As has been said before, the Knicks don't have the assets to compete with other teams offers so Giannis would have to make it clear that the Knicks are his preferred destination and he wouldn't resign somewhere else (although Jimmy Butler originally said the same last year about the Warriors and he re-signed, so things do change) AND the Knicks would have to part with one of their wings, in this case, OG Anunoby. He's basically the asset generator in this case and also fills a need for the Warriors. As with the last one, I kept the draft equity the same because frankly that's much harder for a fan like myself to project and I assume that sportswriters know more than me. I tried not to make it skewed too much to the Knicks but it kind of goes that way and I'll explain more below.

Bucks: This trade is probably more attractive to the Bucks than the last one I did with the Spurs as the 3rd team because they still get a ton of draft equity, but also get a blue-chip young player in Kuminga. They also get off of Kuzma's contract which was reportedly something they proposed in the summer to the Knicks. They also get two young players in Jackson-Davis and Dadiet who aren't playing right now but at least they're young and they could try and develop them. The interesting thing about this trade and my last one is that since the Bucks still don't have their own 2026 pick, tanking isn't necessarily the best play for them. I'm not saying this is a winning team by any means, but it means that they don't have to be truly terrible and this is a super weird lineup but having Kuminga, KAT and Turner in the frontcourt is a crazy idea (again, not saying it'll work, but it would be interesting to watch). Add Rollins to the mix and KPJ and it's kind of a crazy team. At the very least, I think it would be more entertaining to watch and what gets lost in the idea of tanking and rebuilding is that it's a crappy experience for the fans and this might actually make that part more bearable. I won't go too much into the picks but they get a chance in the 2026 draft, the Washington pick will give them 2 more second rounders and they have lots of pick swaps to choose from in years when the Warriors and the Knicks project to get much worse.

Warriors: I struggled with this one because I think it may be a bit of an overpay for the Warriors because Moses Moody is here. Kuminga isn't a huge loss for them as they were looking to trade him and Hield has also been on the chopping block (and Jackson-Davis and Melton aren't a big loss either with one getting very little playing time and the other coming back from injury). But Moody has been pretty great for the Warriors so losing him and the draft equity is pretty rough. However I still think that the return of OG is offsets that. He's one of the best 3 and D wings, is locked down for several years and would fit seamlessly into this team. Kerr has done a good job in years past on utilizing undersized big men (Kevon Looney) and you'd think he could bring out the best in Yabusuele as well. And Kolek is partially here for salary reasons but actually hurts to lose a bit as a Knicks fan because he's been playing pretty well and is a great passer. And the starting lineup of Curry, Butler, OG, Green and Podz is a pretty scary one. I toyed with sending Podz out but with Moody already going out, that seemed like a step too far. Although I think a similar trade would work if you swapped Podz and Horford for Moody.

Knicks: The big question for the Knicks is if Giannis is worth losing KAT and OG considering he's 31, has a concerning injury history in recent years and it's unsure how his playing style will age. Still, this is a great trade for the Knicks as Giannis would give them a bit of a cheat code on offense in a way that KAT hasn't. He's also a great defender (although I think OG is better at this stage). The Knicks also get a backup PG in Anthony (a nice story with his dad being a former Knicks too) and Moody has been playing great this year and is under contract for 3 seasons. Kuzma has been so up and down (mostly down) but he wouldn't start here so while his contract being there hurts, I don't think it's a dealbreaker. And Hield is another great 3 point shooter who could help provide spacing. The depth chart is pretty interesting and I think would do well in the playoffs and have a chance at knocking off the Thunder (I said a chance, the Thunder really look scary). I'm putting Clarkson as a backup PG since the Knicks have so many players in the SG/SF category now. I could also see Giannis playing some 5 if there are injury issues with Mitch at center and Hukporti being the only true backup center. But crazily enough, even with taking in 5 players, they sent 5 out so they'd have a roster spot available to get another backup big man (no clue who that'd be).

PG: Brunson, Anthony/Clarkson

SG: Bridges, Deuce, Hield

SF: Moody, Hart, Shamet

PF: Giannis, Kuzma, Diawara

C: Mitch, Hukporti
