Tweaking a mock trade: Knicks and Jazz

SUCCESS

This is a tweaked trade that was originally proposed on Bill Simmon's podcast and chronicled here:https://heavy.com/sports/nba/new-york-knicks/knicks-trade-center-bench/. I wasn't sure how I felt about it as I was both reluctant to lose Deuce but also felt that it wouldn't be enough for the Jazz to bit with how highly they're valuing Walker Kessler and just how hardcore Danny Ainge is in negotiations (especially with the Knicks). So I adjusted the original trade to include Dadiet and 2 second round picks. Breakdown below:

Jazz: This trade was difficult for two reasons, as I'm not sure how highly the Jazz would value Mitch and the high price for Kessler. And that's not even taking into account Sexton who has improved since being traded to the Jazz. But this trade ends up giving them more than the initial mock trade. They get 2 second round picks in drafts where they don't have as much draft equity and they get recent FRP Pacome Dadiet who has flashed some high upside but is very much raw. The Jazz are rebuilding and he'd add to their large contingent of prospects. They get Mitch who while he is injured and has health issues, is on a very team friendly descending contract and is an All Defense candidate when healthy. They also get Achiuwa, mainly for salary reasons but he plays hard and is still young and could end up staying on the Jazz team. Finally the cornerstone is the inclusion of Deuce. This hurts the most because he's been incredible for the Knicks, is a great defender, has evolved his offensive game and is on one of the most valuable contracts in the NBA right now (he's only paid 4.7 million this year and that actually decreases each year afterwards). His trade value is very high and I think he's someone the Jazz would value.

Knicks: I can't emphasize how much it would hurt to lose Deuce. He's been an incredible development success story, he plays hard and is a fan-favorite. To also lose another developmental success like Mitch in the same trade is frankly pretty brutal. But Mitch is unfortunately frequently hurt at inopportune times and Deuce is the Knicks best asset so they're both heading out in this trade. The Knicks have also been reticent to let go of Dadiet given that he's just arrived but I think the Jazz would want him. It also hurts to lose Achiuwa as he's been great since he came in the OG trade. So why am I proposing this trade? Because Sexton and Kessler are just that good. Sexton would be a huge boost to the second unit's scoring and is probably good enough to slot in the starting lineup if anyone needs some rest. His defense has also improved since his days in Cleveland and although he's by no means elite, he's probably a plus on defense as well. Kessler is the rim protector that Thibs has been craving and is young as well. He rebounds well and scores at a decent pace and would be an upgrade on Mitch. I kept Mykhailuk since the Knicks are losing Achiuwa and they'd need to fill out the backup 3/4 spot. This trade also reduces the Knicks total salaries by 2 million which means they could fit 2 more players (depending on when they're signed) as they would have 2 open roster spots. That could go to players on the Westchester Knicks such as TJ Warren, Chuma Okeke or potential buyout candidates that may be available after the deadline.

In conclusion, I think this would end up being a positive trade for the Knicks AND one that the Jazz would agree too. I still don't think I'd pull the trigger on it though just cause losing Deuce, Mitch and Achiuwa in one trade is too painful.
