Knicks say goodbye to a fan favorite but add young players with potential - 3 team trade - Knicks/Grizzlies/Wizards

The Knicks trade talk machine has gotten very quiet for a while now and many fans (including myself) are hoping that means Leon Rose and co have something in the works. They've seemingly scoured the center trade market with Dylan Cardwell, Moussa Cisse, Yves Missi, Karlo Matkovic and Moussa Diabate all mentioned as targets. But it seems clear that none of those targets will land on the Knicks (at least not in the offseaon) so I turned to another name that has been thrown around but is more of a gamble. Team by team below.

Wizards: The Wizards look primed to have a much better season than the ones preceding them and have some legitimately good and great players on the team. They also somehow have a crowded frontcourt now with Davis, Sarr and Ayton all vying for minutes at center with Vukcevic seemingly on the outside. Basically, there's nowhere near enough minutes for all of them and he seems the most expendable. In return they get Dadiet who, lets face it, has more negative value than good since he's barely played and hasn't looked ready for real NBA minutes. So the Wizards get 4 second round picks, 2 just to offset the negative value (The Sixers trading away Broome is a reference point for this).

Grizzlies: The Grizzlies have undergone so many changes and past cornerstones Jaren Jackson and Ja Morant are gone. They're fully in rebuild mode and have several quality young players on board. However the majority of these players are on the wing or frontcourt and they look short in the backcourt. Losing Pippen Jr. is probably the most controversial part, as he has looked good for the Grizzlies and was a great pickup as an undrafted player. But he is coming off of an injury and they might want a more proven option in Deuce. Now Deuce is not a point guard, but he is an excellent 3 point shooter and great POA defender, both of which would appeal to the Grizzlies. They would have to pay him after this season but would have his Bird rights, much more cap room to work with and could probably still get a solid contract from him that's fairly team friendly. They also get Kolek who looked pretty good for the Knicks before Alvardo pushed him down the depth chart. His 3 point shot improved and his playmaking is very good. His defense still needs work but he's shown himself to be a player who continues to work. GG Jackson is somehow the longest tenured Grizzlie's player but has never really nailed down a spot and again, they have a lot of talent at the 3 and 4 spots ahead of him. I didn't have them getting any draft picks because I think this comes out fairly even (and the Knicks aren't getting a center so they won't get taxed for that part).

Knicks: Finally, with the defending champions, my Knicks, they keep busy and ship out 3 players, two of which really hurt to go. Deuce has been great for the Knicks and is a great defender and 3 point shooter. He's also on the last year of his bargain contract and James Dolan has already been hamstringing the front office by announcing to the world that the Knicks would not enter the 2nd apron (seriously, you can think that in private and even tell the front office, but don't tell everyone, it decimated any leverage the Knicks may have had). The Knicks also ship out Kolek, who had some great moments last year and showed his playmaking chops. Dadiet also leaves but he hasn't played much.

In return, the Knicks get Scotty Pippen Jr. who also showed that he may have what it takes as a backup guard for the Grizzlies. He's a solid scorer, a good playmaker and is solid on defense (although he's not quite to Deuce's level yet). They also get GG Jackson who's flashed good 2-way play but hasn't ever really taken off consistently for the Grizzlies. But he does give the Knicks some more front courtsize, which is lacking on the guard-heavy Knicks. Finally, they get Vukcevic who has shown promise as a center and can score, rebound and even block some shots reasonably well. He also has a bit of an outside shot which would help stretch the floor. And both Pippen Jr. and Vukcevic are under contract for two seasons, putting off a salary crunch another year.

The Knicks also still have one roster spot remaining (and a bit more than the veteran's minimum potentially to throw at someone) and could sign someone like Demar DeRozan, Brandon Williams, Cam Thomas or Bruce Brown and would still have room to sign a 15th player down the line (possibly Tyler Nickel, their second round pick or maybe McCullar).

Depth Chart

PG: Brunson, Alvarado, Pippen Jr.

SG: Bridges, Clarkson, 14th roster spot (see above)

SF: Hart, Shamet, Nickel (see above)

PF: Anunoby, Diawara, Jackson

C: KAT, Drummond/Vukcevic
