Magic Trade for Myles Turner

SUCCESS

Pacers: While trading away some rotational pieces earlier in the season (buddy held and Bruce brown), the Pacers receive some more floor spacing in Wendell Carter and Caleb Houston. They also clear up around 10 million in cap to go ahead and try to sign a good perimeter defender in the offseason. Although Wendell Carter Jr. Had a down year, he is only one year removed from a 15 and 9 season and is on an incredibly great value contract that is front loaded and only worth 11 million entering the 24-25 season. Miles’ defense and offensive capability will be missed but hopefully this creates room for karate Walker to fill that defensive role off the bench next year while also creating more cap to sign players in free agency. Furthermore, the pacers land a high upside player in Caleb Houston who may have more opportunity in Indiana. The Pacers will also leave this trade with a swap best pick swap and a 2025 2nd.

Magic: The magic in this trade are saying goodbye to WCJ’s great contract however with his injury history and need for proven offense and floor spacing Miles turner seems to be the guy. While Wendell provided excellent spacing for the Magic, he just wasn’t quite the defensive Precense they needed in the paint. Turner provided an increase in offense, elite rim protection, and still provides great big man spacing for the magic. Furthermore his Precense inside may allow for Moe Wagners minutes to be more valued as the Magic will not have to sacrifice rim protection while both are in the game. This trade only makes the magic taller and an even better defense while maintains the much needed spacing from the big man position. Turner’s contract is also front loaded so the magic will be paying 19.9 million to have him on the roster, however they have the caps space available to do so as of now. With a convincing season l, perhaps the magic can convince Turner to stay. It’s been rumored for years now that Turner would be leaving Indiana so it seems right to happen here. Letting go of Caleb Houstan can open up some back up time for Jett Howard in case of injury or just towards the back of the rotation as well.
