Since the Mavs are not in control of their first round pick from 2027-2029, the team still must commit to being good right now to maximize their investment. Therefore I do not think it would be in their best interest to rebuild right now in Cooper Flagg’s development years since he is still best as team oriented player. I would propose that the next GM keep their base roster and based on their 2026 draft pick position either trade for a primary facilitator like Lamelo Ball or draft a guy like Neoklis Avdalas aka baby Luka, which would probably help rebuild the global connection the mavericks had with Luka. I think Lamelo Ball is capable of playing winning basketball in the right situation and I think this could be that situation.
