I think I absolutely cooked right here. It's hard to value Gobert, maybe I undervalued him, even still I think every team is pretty happy. Maybe not Lakers fans, they are never happy with any trade, unless it's absolutely fleecing the other team.
Dallas Mavericks: They likely can't keep Gafford and PJ Washington, so they trade Gafford to get the guard depth they need. With Kyrie out beginning of the season, Mike Conley and Austin Reaves will provide scoring and playmaking. They also get a low pick in the draft to take a change on some young guy, which we know Nico likes doing.
Timberwolves: We saw that Gobert isn't working for them, he's getting older on an expensive contract, they need to change something up, so they swap Gobert for Daniel Gafford. You will loose some defense, but you definitely gain some offense. You also gain a bunch off offense with your other acquisition Cam Johnson. He provides shooting in spades, and some creation, ball handling, just overall good offensive talent. Gabe isn't a terrible guard either. They really bolster there offense, while not sacrificing a lot on defense. Also they get a lot younger. Overall pretty solid move for the Timberwolves.
Lakers: Lebron is probably retiring next season, they will try to put together a good enough team to win the chip. Getting Gobert an elite defensive center, that Luka can make look like prime Shaq on offense, is a really good move for them. Also they are adding a really good wing and guard defender in Caleb martin on a good contract, while shedding some bad contracts. This would probably be the best win now trade they could do, that I can think of. They also get a late 1st in the draft to not die of old age. They will likely shop Austin Reaves, pretty good return for him and a 1st.
Nets: They have been shopping Cam Johnson for a while, and basically getting 2 probably good future 1st's and moving up in the draft from 26 & 27 to the 17th. All for Cam and taking in 30 mill expiring, too match contracts and to take the salary, is really fucking good. I think the Nets would really like this deal.
So I really think every team would absolutely love this deal, I'm pretty happy with myself for this trade. If you think some team wouldn't maybe do this for some reason. Let me know in the comment.
P.s Lakers fans will say that it's terrible, not realizing you changed 30 mill expiring of Kleber and Hachimura to a really good former DPOY center, a position they really need, then saved another 10 mill the next season to help free agency pick-ups, then got a really good POA wing defender, all for AR and a 1st. While also getting a 1st back, late first yes, still a first. They will find some reason to hate this trade.
