This is a tough trade, giving three really good role-players away. But I think Herbs value is really high in the league and he's going to cost a lot. Being one of or maybe even the best perimeter defenders in the league, on a cheap contract like he has. He is going to cost. If the Mavs would pursue him they would get rid of PJ or else the wing depth wouldn't fit.
I also added CJ McCollum in the trade, because the Mavs need a guard, and playmaker. He would really just replace Klay as our shooter, plus giving us guard play, and playmaking with it.
Reason teams do this trade: Mavericks: They add a fairly young certified POA (lol), perimeter defender. The guy that picks up the best perimeter player on the other team, and is a pest. All on a good contract, and also kind of fits Cooper Flagg's timeline. I mean getting Herb and adding him to, in my opinion, the best defensive frontcourt in the league. Would take them into the OKC defense levels, being the best or top 2 at least, defensive teams in the league. I mean we know that the team next year is going to hang their hat in defense, why not bolster it. Also they get CJ McCollum to give them some, scoring, shooting and playmaking, while Kyrie is out, beginning of the season. Also replacing the shooting of Klay which they give up in this trade.
Ngl a starting lineup of: Kyrie - Herb Jones - Cooper Flagg - AD - Lively. Makes me feel some feelings that I'm afraid of. Or Kyrie - CJ - Herb - Flagg - AD. is also nasty.
Magic: I mean it's pretty obvious. Their defense is great, but their offense stinks. Getting Klay Thompson, would give them, some much needed shooting and scoring.
Hawks: Shout out to my boi Slightly, been telling us how this would be perfect for the Hawks. They need a Certified Center to start for them, which Gafford can give them. He would fit perfectly with Trae Young, and this team. Exactly what they need. Now are they willing to give up their 13th overall pick for him? I don't know, I'm not sure what value Gafford has in the league. But I would at least much rather have Gafford than the 13th pick.
Trae - Dyson - Risascher - Jalen. J - Gafford. Is tough.
Pelicans: The Pelicans are in a very weird spot. There came out a report, that they are willing to trade anyone on the team, which doesn't surprise me. In this trade they trade their assets, getting the 13th and 25th pick in the draft to try to get some young talent on the team, possibly preparing for a rebuild, or just to restructure the team. They also get assets in PJ Washington, and arguably KCP, that they can keep or trade in the future for some draft capital.
I really think that this isn't a bad trade at all. I think the Magic do this in a heartbeat. The Pelicans too. The Hawks might be on the fence whether Gafford is worth the 13th, but I think they do this also. If not, there can be routed some seconds to them. The Mavs are probably the unlikeliest team to pull the trigger in this 4-team trade. This would be a big swing move, trading 3 really good role-players, for 2 elite role-players. I mean maybe you feel they aren't giving up a lot and this is a steal, but this is a huge restructure of the team. But in the end, I think this is a upgrade on PJ with herb, and an upgrade on Klay with CJ, the cost being Gafford. I think if this trade is available, the Mavs do this in the end.
Let me know in the comments, how y'all feel about this trade. Am I undervaluing some players, or overvaluing some? Is this not worth it for some team? Let me Know.
