Jaden Ivey was just waived by the Bulls. How did Ivey go from looking like a rising star to getting waived?

Well Jaden Ivey was selected 5th overall by the Pistons to be Cade Cunninghams co-star. He started his career well averaging 16.3 PPG his rookie year along with 4 rebounds and 5 assists.

Entering year 2 it seemed like he was a rising star in the league. He had a slightly decreased role for year 2 but still averages 15.4 PPG.

Year 3 is where everything changed for Jaden though…

Jaden Ivey started the year on a HEATER. Averaging 17.6 PPG, 4 RPG, and 4 APG!🔥🔥🔥 He was shooting over 40% from deep. His explosive first step with this developed 3 point shot lead to what seemed like stardom.

But on January 1st, 2025 Jaden Ivey broke his leg after a collision with Cole Anthony. Ivey was slated to miss the rest of the season.

Detroit ended the year better without Ivey playing though…

The 25-26 season began but Ivey wasn’t getting good minutes. Due to their success without Ivey the pistons decided to decrease his role. Through the deadline he was scoring 8 PPG in only 16 MPG. It was clear he wasn’t the same player though

He ended up getting shipped off to Chicago for Kevin Huerter. Ivey played 4 games for Chicago before getting shutdown for the season. It seemed he would just get a new deal somewhere else this offseason until…

Jaden lvey went on an Instagram Live where he said some Homophobic and Religious comments. This and his depression led to Chicago waiving him.

Ivey is expected to retire now and step away from the game of basketball now. Ivey also said early in the season “The old me is dead.”

And that’s how Jaden Ivey went from a young guard headed for stardom to out of the league and expected to retire.😢
