Valid/Invalid: Day Ten!

”The Sixers will make the conference finals this year.” - FinalSixersFan

Listen, I don’t hate the take. I think the Sixers will be a lot better than expected this year, with McCain coming back and their young players (like Maxey) likely to improve further, things can really only go up from 24 wins and the 13 seed in the East. However, with teams like Orlando, New York, Cleveland, even the Celtics, Bucks and Pacers look better. And that’s not even with McCain, George or Embiid’s injury concerns. Not to mention losing key depth proves, especially Yabusele, this offseason.

”Cooper Flagg wins a unanimous rookie of the year (receives all first place votes)” - TM3D1Glazer

Invalid

This one was even more difficult, and I really like this take. However, there have been only 6 unanimous MVPs in NBA history: Ralph Sampson (1984), David Robinson (1990), Blake Griffin (2011), Damian Lillard (2013), Karl Anthony-Towns (2016), and Victor Wembanyama (2024). And while Flagg is elite (arguably better than most on this list), there a couple reasons why I think he won’t be unanimous:

  1. There’s real competition. In most of these races, there was limited competition for the award. Flagg’s in a stacked class, with Harper, Johnson, Edgecombe, Bailey, Fears, Knueppel, even players like Clayton Jr, Murray-Boyles and Hansen Yang or Derrick Queen

  2. Situation. All these other winners came into poor, rebuilding teams. Flagg is going into a situation where he likely won’t be the first or second option, which will lead to less touches and thus, less statistical opportunities. Other players like Tre Johnson or Ace Bailey are likely to rack up a larger number of points due to the fact they’ll be number one or two options on their teams.

”I don't think the Thunder make it out of the west, last season they went to 7 games against the Nuggets and I think the Nuggets improved more this offseason (the only addition for the Thunder who is gonna get some minutes is Thomas Sorber), and don't sleep on the Clippers as well.” - AJGreenisalwaysin

That prediction isn’t really fair because it leaves out how much the Thunder’s young players are still getting better. OKC didn’t just add Thomas Sorber—they already have stars like Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Chet Holmgren, and Jalen Williams, who are all improving every year. The Nuggets might have made some moves, but the Thunder pushed them to seven games last season, and a little more growth could be enough to win that matchup. Plus, the Clippers are talented, but they’ve had trouble staying healthy, so it’s risky to count on them over a steady, rising team like OKC.

Unfortunately a triple invalid today, but I believe we can bounce back tomorrow
