This list of players will be current and all-time players in my opinion who were way to overhated. I am going based off my memory only (except for stats) so if I forget someone than lmk and why u think they are overhated.
Rudy Gobert - This is a controversial one, Gobert has been and will probably always be the most underrated NBA player in history in my opinion. The fact that this man has 4 DPOY's and people act like he is horrible just because his offense is average is crazy. People complain about how he can't shoot, MOST BIGS CAN'T SHOOT, people complain about how he is a bad passer, THAT IS NOT WHAT BIGS ARE SUPPOSED TO DO, STOP WATCHING JOKIC AND THINK THAT EVERY BIG DOES THAT, people complain that he is a bad ball handler, once again, BIGS ARE NOT POINT GAURDS! People always point out the negatives and NEVER point out this guy was won 4 DPOY's and has deserved each and every one of them. You could argue that AD deserved it his first year but he had way more votes than AD. His 2nd and 3rd DPOY were clearly him and stop it with the Wemby deserved that DPOY over him in WEMBYS ROOKIE YEAR, EMBIID DROPPED 70 on HIM AND DOMINATED WEMBY. Also Wemby is 7'5 so of course he would get more blocks and steals. He is as light a stray cat and even Kai Jones and Kenny Lofton would dominate him. Okay back to Gobert. Noone in your right mind can look at a guy's resume and say a man who have 13 points and 12 boards with 2 blocks a night, 4 DPOY's and 3 all stars sucks.
Russell Westbrook - Westbrook has never really been hated until he joined the Lakers. Lakers fans are just like this (sorry), but Lakers fans always have such high expectations that tend to not result well sometimes. They expect Russ who is 33 years old and mind you, on the same team as AD and Bron to average 25. That is not happening. Russ averaged 17,7,7 for his 2 years with the Lakers and people acted like he is playing like fricking Ish Smith or smth. Russ is a great player and is still a great player. People acted like he had horrible efficiency but really it was just average for him. We all know that Russ is not a great shooter and people acted like he became Shaq when he joined the Lakers when his percentage was just 1% lower than his career 3pt%. Ever since then, he has hopped around teams averaging double digits on all of them. He is still a good player and even though he is out of his prime, it seems like everyone now hates him. He is still a top 8 PG of all time in my opinion but he gets so much disrespect.
Greg Oden - Was Oden a good NBA player, No. Was he as bad as people say he was, also no. Oden is not a bust. A bust is an NBA player who is a top 5 pick (how i think of it) and had a bad career and did not live up to their expectations even though they had the right chances. Oden did not have the right chances. He was injured 4 of his 7 years in the NBA and some of those years he just was not on a team because of how bad his injuries were. He only played more than 25 games in a season once. He averaged 8 points and 6 rebounds for his career on decent efficiency for a young big man. People like Anthony Bennett, Hasheem Thabeet, Adam Morrison, Sam Bowie, Darko Milicic and if u want to throw Olowakandi or Michael Olowakandi in their who both had decently long careers but did not live up to their expectations, you can also throw them in this conversation, but ODEN IS NOT A BUST.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander - You can call SGA an unethical free throw merchant but we have seen this many times before. If you look it up, Shai is just about average for free throw attempts per game in an MVP season. Last year, his free throws per game ranked 27th in MVP seasons all time, which is slightly above average and the guys above him, Giannis, Michael Jordan, Wilt, Bob Pettit, Kobe Bryant, Shaq, KD, Oscar Robertson and others, THOSE GUYS DON'T get hate, so why should Shai? Shai is a tremendous scorer and flopping is a thing that has been around for ages. In my opinion, he is the 2nd best player in the world right now behind Jokic but has had the best season this year. My point is, do not paint Shai as a horrible free throw merchant and flopper when other MVPs have done it more than he has. 5.
