What Happened
The Harrison Barnes decline is interesting to me because it happened so fast, one game he was a quality roleplayer, next he looked like a completely different basketball player, and not in a good way. He just got 4 minutes in game 5 with zero points, in game 6 he had 13 minutes with 6 points. The worst part is he is the most replaceable player on the team, we already have Carter Bryant, there are players in the draft like Chris Cenac, Hannes Stienbach, Morez Johnson, oh yeah and his contract is up this year. Barnes is an unrestricted free agent this offseason and if he does get signed by someone he won't be making anywhere near what he is making now (19.0 M per year) he will most likely be on the league minimum or something close to that.
The Fallout
What will most likely happen is he gets some signed for little money and won't play a lot.
Why This Isn't Just Your Average Slump
Well, reason 1, is the timing, he is 33 and was on a massive decline for the back half of the season. Reason 2, is he is most likely not on the Spurs next year, it looks like the Spurs have no intention of renewing him. Why would they? Reason 3, it was so sudden, so surprising, and he just started shooting terribly all of a sudden. At the end of the day I don't think the question is will he be on the Spurs next year, it's will he be in the NBA next year.
