After careful deliberation within the New Orleans Jazz organization, the team will be changing its name to the New Orleans Pine Snakes. The Louisiana pine snake is the largest snake in the state of Louisiana and can only be found in Louisiana and eastern Texas. These snakes are considered one of the rarest snakes in North America and have been placed on the endangered species list. There are only approximately 200 snakes left due to their ever dwindling habitat caused by urban development. Our hope is that our rebranding will help to raise awareness for this endangered species. The New Orleans organization will also be donating 15% of all ticket sales to help build a sustainable habitat for the Louisiana pine snakes. The new conservation area will be named after the late owner of the, then, New Orleans Hornets/Pelicans, The Benson State Park.
