Morey has been asking for 4 unprotected first round picks. Herro and Caleb help lower that demand.

The Heat initially stated that they weren't interested in Harden after losing out on both Lillard and Jrue. They have now been reported to be actively bidding. They still have a disgruntled Herro. With Josh Richardson signed, they can afford to deal both Herro and Caleb to improve the team with Harden.

The Bulls and Clippers are both actively involved in talks for Harden, too. And the Knicks and Raptors are still contemplating getting involved. This could still turn into a bidding war, yet.

Teams know they need to make a deal before opening night so that Harden retains his non-bird rights. If they don't, Harden will walk in free agency and the trade will only be a rental and Harden will be unhappy this season.
