Why the Bulls make this deal:

They can get a return like this for DeMar and Caruso now because the Sixers are willing to overpay to not wait until the deadline. The Bulls are a first round playoff exit before this deal and after the deal, but their future has much more potential afterwards.

What the Bulls get:

Tobias is someone who can immediately produce in either forward spot. He's a plus player on offense and defense, rebounds, and is a leader and team player who can fit multiple roles. Jaden is the former G League Finals MVP and most lockdown defender under 23 who can replace Caruso's defense with more offensive potential. Bamba can effectively stretch the floor and still has the potential to be a starting center one day. They don't get the 3 first round picks they seek for both DeRozan and Caruso, but damn close to it. In addition to one unprotected first round pick, they get a lightly protected (top 3) first, a 2nd round pick, and a pick swap.

Why the Sixers make this deal:

Their greatest need is a playmaker and secondary ball handler who can create his own shot as we;; as provide plus defense. They also need a seasoned shutdown wing defender. Lastly a reliable backup center is needed for the non-Embiid minutes.

What the Sixers get:

DeMar is someone who can seamlessly fit their chemistry while providing the starting lineup most of what they're missing. Caruso can be a starting shutdown wing defender or come off the bench since he's a minus on offense. Drummond was Embiid's best backup in his career.

Summary:

The Bulls can wait and hope they catch lightning in a bottle, but it's highly unlikely they can get past the Knicks, Bucks, 76ers, or Celtics in the first round. If they wait until the trade deadline, then this deal won't be around from Philly still and it's highly unlikely they can find anything close to this.
