Step 1: Resign Peyton Watson. This is the single most important thing the nuggets need to accomplish this offseason. Peyton was looking like a rising star before his injuries, and is in my opinion the nuggets 3rd most important player now. Hopefully this deal is enough money
Step 2: Trade CB, Big Val, Zeke Nnaji, Julian Strawther, and an unprotected 2031 pick swap for Malik Monk and Deandre Hunter (THJ is just in the trade to show we are not resigning him). I love CB, but he's a non shooter who isn't good enough at anything else to gloss over that weak spot. With that being said, he's only 25 and just a year removed from a breakout season, so I don't think it's outside the realm of possibility for a team like the Kings to see value in him. Couple that with a juicy 2031 pick swap, a young guy with upside in Strawther, and Val (who the Kings can just waive without paying him a dime because of the way his contract is structured), and I think this is a deal that they would consider. One of the biggest issues for the nuggets in the playoffs this year was lack of shot creation outside of Jokic and Murray. Monk is an electric 3 level scorer who instantly becomes an energizer sixth man for the nuggets. Then you have Hunter, who is a solid, if not slightly overpaid 3 and D wing who provides extra defensive versatility and forward insurance behind AG.
Step 3: Resign Bruce Brown, David Roddy (that's who Tamar Bates represents), and Spencer Jones. Bruce is a great locker room guy who is beloved by the fan base, so I think resigning him at a minimum would be a no brainer. Roddy showed enough in his brief time with Denver this season to the point where I would love to have him back as some extra forward insurance. Finally, there's Spencer Jones, who emerged as a key rotation player for the nuggets this season. Because he is a restricted free agent, I don't think a lot of teams will give him super lucrative offers, which should allow the nuggets to resign him for cheap.
Step 4: Draft Tyler Tanner with the 26th pick in the draft. The nuggets desperately need a true backup PG to alleviate the burden on Murray, and Tyler Tanner is impossible to ignore in my opinion. While he is short, he is an excellent ball handler and passer, shoots 3s at a respectable percentage so teams can't leave him open, he puts a lot of pressure on the defense with his speed and ability to finish above the rim, and he constantly hounds opposing ball handlers full court while being a menace in passing lanes. If I could build the perfect backup PG for the nuggets, it would be him.
Step 5: Sign Gary Harris and Moses Brown (that's who Moses Wright represents). These are just a couple of moves around the margins to improve the nuggets depth. I don't think Gary will be back with the Bucks next season, as they appear to be pivoting towards a rebuild, so adding a player who the fans love, and who we know fits well with Jokic would be a huge bonus. As for Moses Brown, he's been with the Nuggets G-Leauge team this season and is a great rebounder and rim protector, two things that this team needs. However, I do think the lions share of the backup center minutes should go to Darron Holmes, who the nuggets have invested significant capital in, and who I truly believe can be a great backup five for the nuggets if he continues to improve, as he has shown a decent amount of flashes of 3 point shooting, short roll playmaking, and defensive versatility.
