The more I think about it, the more I’m not a Peyton Watson believer and think this might just be a hot streak. Trading Cam Johnson and keeping Watson could prove to be a big mistake if Watson comes back down to earth. Signing Watson for 5 years on a huge contract would be the death of this era if he goes back to playing normally.
Instead I’d capitalize on his current value and use him to clear up money. If you told us at the beginning of the season we could get rid of Zeke Nnajis contract and get 2 excellent rotation pieces, it would’ve been a miracle. The way I see it is we either pay Watson and go back to having absolutely zero bench every year or we take this opportunity to dump dead weight and have a great bench every year. Watson or not, this team would be in the dumps without Hardaway and Jonas. Watson or not, having a bench next year of Bruce brown, Pickett and g league players would kill us and we’d suck. Back to the dilemma of no depth. This trade also clears enough space to sign Spencer Jones.
