I said last offseason if the Pacers don't draft a C. They should select Jamir Watkins.. But no, of course they selected Kam Jones.. Who we don't even need. I know Washington loves Watkins. However, if they do pick up AJ Dybansta. They might be perfectly fine adding another Top 8 pick. Who could still end up breaking out. Pacers have often played Jarace outside the role he's comfortable in. So if the Wizards were to draft AJ. Who would play SF. That would mean Jarace Walker could start for them at his natural PF position. They'd also then have two young Top picks Who are great at seeing the floor and passing the rock at 6'9 and 6'8. That would be huge to help all the scoring guards on that team as well.
Problem is for the Pacers. Since Jarace didn't breakout last season. Even though he played ok and had a few big game's. He hasn't played like a Top 8 pick yet. So that would mean the Pacers would have to give up a protected 1st to get Watkins. Because the Wizards love Jamir Watkins and view him as a future core piece.
Same sorta thing goes for Moussa Diabate. Hornets would also want a protected 1st to come off of Diabate. Since he has recently had a couple breakout seasons as a very solid switchable Defensive Center. Who will hustle on both ends and is a very good Defensive Rebounder. I'm not sure they would take back Kam Jones. Pacers may have to come off of a different player. Or at least another player. Maybe even a 2nd.
Landry Shamet is an UFA though and the Knicks won't have the cap space to resign him. Unless they were somehow able to get further under the 1st apron. If they sign anyone else. They will be hard capped at the 2nd apron.. and lets face it.. they have plenty of other capable shooter's off their bench and will likely add another in this coming draft to replace him. Pacers shouldn't hesitate to offer Landry Shamet a little over the minimum he made the past couple seasons with the Knicks.
What do you Pacers fans think about these trades? BTW it's already been said by what I've looked into that it would take at least a protected 1st and Jarace to get Watkins. Same goes for Diabate. So as much as that sucks. They are protected, these team's aren't just going to give these guy's away. It's possible Jarace Walker is set to have a big year this coming offseason..
However this also helps give us more cash to go get another good player. So now we have a young player to develop who's good and can guard multiple positions. A great C who's an awesome contrast to Zubac and a couple really good shooters. Hardy was a throw in to make salary work. He could also be rerouted for something though. This will also help us build up some much needed 2nds as well.
Pacers needed a pick in this 26' draft. Even if it is a late 2nd. So we can get another young guy on a Two-Way. While recouping picks we had nearly none of in future year's. This would help us be a legitimate threat come playoff time. For filling exact positions of need with the perfect players off the bench. For Defense and Offense.
What do you guy's think of these trades? Picks and some player's can always be added, or some taken away. Do you feel like this is fair for both sides? I think it's pretty fair imo.
