These two are back at it again with a deal that’s a win-win for each team’s second unit.

If the Kawhi trade goes through, the Clippers will find themselves with too many guard/wings to provide Mathurin a solid role, and the teams appear to be at an impasse on a new deal. It may be in Mathurin’s best interest to seek a sign and trade on a modest contract to a team with a solid role available to fit him.

The Pacers are in a similar situation with Jarace Walker — no way to provide him a role with minutes on this roster. They also have a need on their second unit SG/wing spot. This deal would give Mathurin back his sixth man role that he thrived in, with a system he already knows.

Walker lands in a situation with the Clippers where he can actually get a 2nd unit role at his natural position of PF. The Pacers have really done him a disservice early in his career playing him out of position at SF because of Obi Toppin’s role.

It’s a win-win for both teams aiming to make their second units fit better together, and for each player’s career.
