The Lakers are going to get desperate, Indy has the leverage and the desire for picks. So what’s fair?

In this deal, the Lakers fill out a more balanced roster around LeBron and AD. They get their starting shooting guard in Hield for desperately needed 3-point accuracy, along with a depth big in Theis, and a depth wing in Brissett. Add these three while dropping Westbrook and dramatically lowering their tax bill, it’d be a win-win for both the locker room and ownership.

For the Pacers, the tank is on, but the development opportunity is up. Hield’s minutes immediately go to Mathurin, who has shined so far. The Pacers also land the draft capital they want with the unprotected ‘27 first round pick and a couple of second round picks to help trade up in next year’s draft. The Westbrook contract actually helps them reach the league’s team minimum salary while staying under the cap for deadline flexibility. He never sees the inside of the Pacers locker room as he gives back a few million for a buyout and signs a minimum deal elsewhere.

It’s a winning scenario for everyone involved.
