There’s buzz around this trade idea online, but I wanted to change it to a way I see it working.

In this, the Pacers give up a bit more to solidify Toronto’s involvement. Both Jalen Smith and Chris Duarte are not looking like they’ll be in the team’s future plans. They can be two young assets to help get the deal across the finish line. I think a future protected first from Dallas is also needed to sweeten the deal for Toronto. I don’t see Bertans as a strong selling point as suggested in the online trade. Toronto also clears salary space in this deal.

For the Pacers, it’s pretty simple. They get OG as the new forward they’ve been craving to plug into this lineup. Losing Buddy hurts, but the 10th pick could help make up for his incredible 3-point shooting if they drafted someone like Gradey Dick. Creates a starting five of Turner, OG, Dick, Mathurin, and Haliburton. That fits together really well.

Dallas takes a first necessary step in this trade to rebuild around Luka. Buddy would help spread the floor to give Luka more room to operate, and if they’re able to re-sign Kyrie, the combo of Irving-Hield-Doncic would be pretty strong. Next step would be offloading Hardaway’s contract to put that money towards their front court. OKC is always dependable to take on a contract for a late lottery pick if they wanted to flip 13 their way, or use it on a prospect like Lively.
